CHARLESTON, S.C. – For the second-consecutive year, the College of Charleston women's golf team will open the spring season at the fourth annual Westbrook Spring Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin on Feb. 22-23 at the Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Ariz.
The 54-hole tournament features 15 teams and will be held on the par 72, 6,269-Yard Vistas Course. No. 37-ranked Ohio State is the defending tournament champion and is joined in the field by No. 43 Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, No. 46 Kansas State, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 32 Notre Dame, Tulsa and CofC.
“We are looking forward to traveling to Phoenix for our first tournament of the spring,” CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. “The weather is expected to be gorgeous. The Westbrook Invitational will be a great early test for us as 13 of the 14 tournament teams hail from the Power 5 conferences. This will be a great opportunity for us to beat some of those schools. I am looking forward to a good weekend of play from our team.”
In last year's tournament, CofC tied for fourth with a 5-over par 869. The Cougars went through qualifying this week and will travel junior Mary Chandler Bryan (Chapin, S.C.), sophomore Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany), junior Louise Olsson (Uddeholm, Sweden), senior C.C. Buford (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Morgan Webber (Moore, S.C.).
The tournament gets underway with team practice rounds on Saturday. Playing in threesomes, the teams will play 36 holes Sunday in a shotgun format. Pairings for the final 18 holes on Monday will be determined by score. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round.
Tee times for the 36-hole day begin at 8:30 a.m. (MT) with the afternoon round starting at 1 p.m. (MT). The tournament concludes Monday with 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. (MT).
The Cougars will be paired in the first two rounds with Illinois and Oklahoma. Live tournament scoring will available via www.Golfstat.com.
