No. 55 William & Mary Sweeps College of Charleston in Women?s Tennis

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The 55th-ranked William & Mary swept College of Charleston women's tennis, 7-0, at the McCormack-Nagelson Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Va. on Sunday. The match marked the first CAA competition for both opponents.
“It's clear that William & Mary will definitely be one of the teams to beat in order to win the CAA Championship,” head coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. “They are very well coached and it wouldn't surprise me if they were a top-25 team by the end of the season. We saw firsthand today why they were able to go 4-3 against No. 2 Duke”
The Tribe (8-2, 1-0 CAA) promised to be a formidable opponent, having risen seven spots in the most recent ITA rankings and boasting two regionally ranked players in Jeltje Loomans and Leena Neminchov.
Senior Samantha Maddox put up a fight against three-time CAA Player of the Week Neminchinov at the top singles spot, winning three games in the first set before ultimately yielding a 6-3, 6-1 decision. Jenny Falcone also won three games in her first set against fourth-seeded Maria Groener before giving up the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 and freshman Helena Nyikos picked up two games in the first set and three games in the second against her opponent, Julia Casselbury, at the No. 5 spot.
With the last of its indoor matches under its belt, CofC (0-7, 0-1 CAA) will continue its five-match away stretch with a pair of outdoor matches in Florida next weekend. The Cougars will take on Stetson on Saturday, Feb. 28 before traveling to North Florida for a Monday matchup .
