Men?s Tennis Picks Up First Win of the Season With 6-1 Triumph over SCAD

SAVANNAH, Ga. – College of Charleston men's tennis picked up its first win of the season with a 6-1 decision over NAIA's 19th-ranked Savannah College of Art and Design on Friday afternoon.
The Cougars (1-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after sweeping the Bees (2-1) in doubles. Junior Garrett Gordon made his season debut at the No. 3 spot with newcomer Vasily Kichigin, where the pair picked up a decisive 6-1 win. Senior Charlie Ghriskey and junior Zack Lewis paired up for the first time this year to pick up a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot while seniors Brice Allanic and Alon Faiman moved to 1-1 on the season as Charleston's top seed with a 6-3 triumph over SCAD's Yulin Sean Hadiu.
College of Charleston earned five wins in singles competition with the lone loss coming in an exciting three-set match at the top spot. Allanic picked up a 7-5 win in the first set and then rallied in the third set, forcing a tiebreak before eventually yielding a 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 decision to Kenta Yaka.
Lewis also went to three sets in his match on court No. 4. After SCAD's Sean Haidu tied the score by winning the second set, Lewis responded with a 6-0 shutout in the third set to earn his first singles win of the year.
The Cougars return home to Patriots Point Tennis Center to host Winthrop in a 2 pm matchup on Sunday.
