HARRISONBURG, Va. – Another big showing from sophomore Bre Bolden was not enough as the College of Charleston women's basketball team fell on the road Wednesday, 107-58, to the Dukes of James Madison University at the Convocation Center.
In what was the regular season finale for both teams, the Cougars (5-24, 3-15) were again paced by the Edgewater, Md., native who proved to be a shining light for the Cougars, dropping 18 points and grabbing five rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Also chipping in for The College was Erin Hall and Jacqueline Luna –Castro, who combined for 18 points and 3 boards.
As a team, the Cougars were second-best in almost every major statistical category as the Dukes celebrated senior night by winning the battle on the glass, 58-25 and knocking down shots at a 48% clip. Colonial Athletic Association preseason Player of the Year Precious Hall led all scorers with 22 points, while Lauren Okafor, Ashley Perez and Toia Giggets also registered double-digit scoring efforts with 17, 16 and 12 respectively.
It was all James Madison (25-3, 16-1) from the outset as the conference leaders, buoyed by a crowd of over 2,500 fans, knocked down eight-of-14 first half three pointers to take a 58-32 lead at the halftime break.
Despite an improved second-half performance, the deficit proved too large and the Dukes walked away with their 26th win of the season.
The College will now look to rebound as the Cougars make their way to Upper Marlboro, Md., for the CAA Championship. The Cougars will enter the tournament as the No. 9 seed and will face Towson on Thursday, Mar. 12 at 12:00 p.m. All games are set to be held at the Show Place Arena; stay tuned to CofCSports.com for more information.
