CHARLESTON, S.C. – Six College of Charleston women's golfers were named to the 2014-15 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division I All-American Scholar Team.
Overall, the back-to-back CAA champion Cougars compiled an impressive 3.685 grade-point average placing them No. 16 in the nation in team GPA among all NCAA Division I women's golf programs.
Those recognized individually by the coaches' association were graduating senior C.C. Buford (Exercise Science – San Antonio, Texas), rising seniors Julia Neumann (Finance – Berlin, Germany), Louise Olsson (Exercise Science – Uddeholm, Sweden) and Morgan Webber (Exercise Science – Moore, S.C.), and rising juniors Vici Drechsler (Finance – Munich, Germany) and two-time CAA Women's Golfer of the Year Laura Fuenfstueck (Finance – Langen, Germany).
In all, 758 NCAA student-athletes were honored for their work in the classroom and on the course. Student-athletes must earn a 3.5 GPA, while competing in at least 50 percent of their team's contests to earn All-American scholar status.
“Our program has been successful in all facets over the past couple of years,” CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. “It's truly a testament to the character and drive of the student-athletes we have in our program. They have definitely earned the recognition they are receiving for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the golf course.”
CofC will open its 2015-16 season as host of the Powerade Cougar Classic on Sept. 13-15 at Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.
