CHARLESTON, S.C. – Another tough tournament field awaits the College of Charleston women's golf team as it travels to the 19th annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships hosted by the University of Tennessee on Sept. 21-22 at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
In their last outing, the Cougars hosted six preseason Golfweek Top 30 teams at the Powerade Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club. This week, they will face four preseason-ranked squads in the 14-team field including No. 15 and host Tennessee, No. 21 Ohio State, No. 24 NC State and No. 29 UNLV.
Other teams making the trip to Knoxville are Chattanooga, Florida, Iowa State, Illinois, Kent State, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota and South Dakota State.
“We will play another big-time field this week,” CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. “We hope to keep the momentum going from our final round at the Cougar Classic.”
For the second-consecutive tournament, CofC will start junior Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany), senior Mary Chandler Bryan (Chapin, S.C.), senior Louise Olsson (Uddeholm, Sweden), senior Morgan Webber (Moore, S.C.) and senior Julia Neumann (Berlin, Germany).
The Cougars combined for a final-round 295 (+7) at the Cougar Classic, which was the sixth-lowest final 18 holes behind No. 4 Arkansas, No. 27 Georgia, No. 17 Virginia, Florida and Clemson in the 20-team field.
The par-70 course will be set-up to play at 5,958 yards with an 8:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start on Monday with 36 holes of continuous play. Tuesday's final round is also set for an 8:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start. Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com.
