
Cougars Post Pair of Top-Five Performances at ACC's

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The fourth-ranked College of Charleston sailing team finished third at the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship, and fourth at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship to wrap up another stellar weekend of competition for the Cougars on Sunday.
The Cougars placed third in the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship, held on the Charles River in Boston, Mass., with 267 points. Junior skipper Stefano Peschiera (Lima, Peru) and junior crew Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.) accumulated 139 points in A-Division, while senior skipper Jack Cusick (Fairfield, Conn.) and senior crew Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.) recorded 128 points in B-Division. The Cougars finished seven points ahead of fourth-place Hobart and 11 points behind second-place Tufts.
In Mount Pleasant, the Cougars finished 21 points behind third-place Rhode Island with a total of 260 points at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship. Junior Paris Henken (Coronado, Calif.) skippered A-Division to 139 points, as sophomore Caroline Bracken (Bridgewater, Mass.), junior Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.), sophomore Annabel Carrington (White Stone, Va.), and senior Irene Abascal (Guatemala, City, Guatemala) each served as crew at one point during the weekend.
Alie Toppa skippered B-Division to 121 points with Carrington and Bracken splitting time as crew.
The Cougars will travel to San Diego, Calif. next weekend, Nov. 18-20, for the ICSA Sloop Nationals. Junior skipper Christophe Killian (Newport Beach, Calif.) and his crew of junior Jack Thompson (Newport Beach, Calif.), senior Howie Meyers (Bellport, N.Y.), and freshman Laura Masterson (Kemah, Texas) will represent the Cougars in the quest for the match race national championship.
