Cougars Ink Three In 2017 Signing Class

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The three-time defending Colonial Athletic Association champion College of Charleston men's golf team and head coach Mark McEntire has inked three newcomers to its 2017 signing class including the Top 2-ranked players in the Palmetto State and one top world amateur.
Next season, the Cougars will welcome 6-foot-4 Reed Bentley out of James F. Byrnes High School in Spartanburg, S.C., 6-foot Raphael Geissler out of Golf Club St. Leon-Rot in Baden-Württemberg, Germany and 5-foot-11 Patrick Golden out of Waccamaw High School in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
RAPHAEL GEISSLER
A member of the German National Team, Geissler ranked among the Top 500 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings as a 16 year old. He has played tournament golf since he was nine years old and started playing amateur events at the age of 15. Geissler has traveled throughout Europe, the U.S. and Asia to play in amateur and pro events where he boasts a scoring average of 73. McEntire notes, "he will bring experience to our team." Geissler has played in numerous professional events as an amateur most recently the first stage of European Tour Qualifying School in France missing the cut by four strokes.
PATRICK GOLDEN
Ranked No. 1 in the Class of 2017 in the state of South Carolina, Golden was also ranked among the Top 200 recruits in the country. He has been playing competitive golf since the age of 8 and works with PGA Tour star Dustin Johnson's swing coach. Golden has put together a scoring average of 73 in junior events. McEntire notes that Golden, "has a very steady game and reminds me of a William Rainey-type player. He will bring stability and competitiveness to our team."
REED BENTLEY
Ranked No. 2 in the Class of 2017 in the state of South Carolina, Bentley has a scoring average of 73.3 in junior events. At 6-foot-4 tall, he is a pure athlete very similar to a Dustin Johnson-type player. McEntire says, "he has the ability to go very low and will bring creativity and competitiveness to our team."
