Cougars to Host Ospreys in First-Ever Meeting
11/29/2016 6:34:00 PM | Women's Basketball
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's basketball team (2-3) returns to the friendly confines of TD Arena on Wednesday night, where they will host the UNF Ospreys (4-3) at 6:30 p.m.
The College comes off a 65-62 road-victory against Appalachian State Sunday. The Cougars rushed out to a big early lead, going into the locker room up 37-20. A combination of an App State push and a medley of foul calls allowed the Mountaineers to make it a game in the second half, but CofC held on to preserve the win. Breanna Bolden finished with an 18-8 performance, while Tanisha Brown logged a 17-10 double-double.
Bolden has been on a tear to start the season. Through five games, she ranks among the Top 3 in the CAA in points (17.8 PPG), rebounds (8.2 RPG) and steals (4.0 SPG). Tanisha Brown has been quite effective in her own right, averaging a 13-9 and recording three double-doubles on the year.
The Cougars and Ospreys have never faced one another in women's basketball. The last time the Cougars played an Atlantic Sun opponent was in 2014, when they opened their season against Kennesaw State. For North Florida, it will be their first exposure to CAA competition since last year, when they hosted UNCW in a 63-47 loss.
North Florida is 4-3 on the season, with wins over Florida A&M, Webber International, Florida Atlantic and Nicholls State. All four of their victories have come inside the city of Jacksonville, with three coming at home in UNF Arena, and another occurring during Jacksonville University's Thanksgiving Classic. Through seven games, Claire Ioannidis leads the team in scoring with 16.0 PPG, while Liberty transfer Tesh Hanson has been the team's most versatile player, averaging a 15-8 while adding ten steals and seven blocks on the year.
