BOWLING GREEN, KY. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (2-7) went blow-for-blow with the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers (7-4) on Sunday in E.A. Diddle Arena, but it was WKU who prevailed down the stretch to take the 89-76 win.
• The game featured 11 lead changes in total, seven in the opening quarter, two more in the third, and two more in the fourth. After a tight opening frame, WKU dominated the second quarter, pushing the lead as high as high as 18 before settling for a 42-31 lead at half. CofC responded by outscoring Western Kentucky 27-18 in the third, taking the lead late in that quarter and again at the beginning of the fourth.
• Breanna Bolden rebounded from a tough night against Louisville to sink a career-high 23 points on 9 of 14 shooting, adding two boards, four assists, and five steals. Tanisha Brown (15-4-3) and Dajah Logan (14-4-4) posted similar stat lines, going a combined 13 of 21 from the field. Shiclasia Brown logged a full 40 minutes of action at the point guard spot, while Brianna Boyd came off the bench to lead all Cougars in rebounding (5), adding eight points and a block on 3 of 4 shooting.
• Sunday was the first game all season where no Cougar has registered a double-double. Previously, Tanisha Brown had accumulated five (Charlotte, Winthrop, Appalachian State, UNF, Houston), Bolden had two (N.C. State, Va. Tech) and Bri Boyd had one (Louisville).
• Both teams submitted excellent shooting performances, with CofC going 50.8% (32 of 63) from the field and WKU managing 48.4% (30 of 62) shooting. The Cougars' undoing came from rebounding (39-27 WKU) and fouls, a department where the Cougars committed 21 to the Lady Toppers' seven. On an individual level, five Lady Toppers reached double-digits, led by Ivy Brown's 21-17 effort.
The Cougars return home for a Tuesday showdown with Coastal Carolina (4-5) at 4 p.m.
