Cougars Finish Season Taking Seventh at CAA Championships

ELON, N.C. – The College of Charleston track and field team concluded its 2016 season Saturday, finishing up a seventh place showing by way of 45 team points at the CAA Championships.
Julisa Tindall saved her best jump of the season for when it mattered most, pulling off a season-best height of 1.76m in the high jump to seal the CAA crown in the event. It was Tindall's second conference championship in a row, having won in 2015 as well. RoShani Glover was the other Cougar to make an impact in the jumps, capturing bronze with a leap of 12.15m. The two jumpers combined to give CofC 16 points.
“Julisa did a great job in her win,” head coach Amy Seago said. “I'm also proud of RoShani. She's had a great four-year career, and has really come into her own this year. I know she didn't necessarily achieve her goal at this meet, but she gave tremendous effort and she has a lot to be proud of. Her work ethic is an example for the rest of her teammates.”
All three heptathletes finishes the two-day event by putting points on the board for the Cougars. Jenny Martin took fourth place with a score of 4386 points, with Sarah Lynch was close behind in fifth with 4250. Julia Petruch (4138 points) finished things off with a seventh place finish, as the three combined to put 11 points on the board. All three women hit personal bests in the heptathlon, with Petruch moving up to No. 5 on the all-time list, having eclipsed 4000 pts for the first time in her career.
“The heptathletes did a phenomenal job,” Seago said. “For Jenny to do what she did as a freshman is phenomenal, and Sarah and Julia have had to battle through a lot of injuries, so it was really cool to see their work pay off.”
Cara Butcher put three more points on the board for the Cougars in the steeplechase with a sixth place finish, just a second shy of her PR with a time of 10:46.67. She was the only non-relay-runner for the College to score in two events, having done so in the 5000m the previous night.
The relays both scored for the College, beginning with the 4x100m taking seventh with a time of 47.93 with a squad of Timesha Moody, Deanna King, Brianna Lewis and Kennay Agnew. It was the fourth-fastest time in CofC history. After that, the Cougars subbed Lewis out for Jordan Gravelle as they transitioned to the 4x400m, where the Cougars finished eighth with a time of 3:55.13. That was an historic performance as well, as it was also the fourth-fastest in CofC history.
“I think we had a lot of ups and downs during this meet,” Seago said. “I like how the team is resolved to be better. We'll have our work cut out for us in the future. We'll take some time off, and then we'll be back to it in August looking to pick up where we left off.”
