COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – The College of Charleston men's golf team finished third at The FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove hosted by Middle Tennessee at the par-72 Grove Club.
The Cougars, who were in second after the second round on Monday, were one stroke back of Ole Miss through 15 holes, but carded a final-round 298 to finish at +14 for the tournament. Ole Miss won the team tournament title (+4), while Kennesaw State was runner-up (+10).
Senior William Rainey (Charlotte, N.C.) shot even-par for the tournament to tie for fourth individually, while freshman Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.) tied for 14th in just his second collegiate competition (+4). Freshman Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.) tied for 24th (+6).
"It was fun to be in contention with a few holes to go," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We have a great team and this was a great finish for us. It hurts, but we got some great wins that will help us the remainder of the year. Individually, it was a great tournament for William (Rainey) and Hunter (Dunagan). We will keep working and see what we can do next week in Cincinnati."
CofC will compete for the third-straight week at the Bearcat Invitational hosted by Cincinnati on Sept. 26-27 at the Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
