CINCINNATI, Ohio – The College of Charleston men's golf team finished third with a three-round score of 861 (+9) at the 2016 Bearcat Invitational on Tuesday at the Coldstream Country Club.
It marked the third-straight Top 5 finish for the Cougars this fall against top competition. Michigan State won the team title (+3), while Ohio State was runner-up (+7).
Senior Parker Derby (Columbus, Ga.) shot rounds of 70, 69 and 75 to tie for seventh at 1-over par for the tournament. Meanwhile, senior William Rainey (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.) tied for 14th at +4.
"It was a solid tournament, but I am disappointed with today's round," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "I really felt that this team was ready to get a W. We had a great start to our fall and beat some really good teams. We have a great team and some things to work on before we tee it up again at Turtle Point."
The Cougars will close out their fall season at the East Bay Classic hosted by Charleston Southern on Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Turtle Point course on Kiawah Island, S.C.
