Huff’s Career Day Not Enough as Cougars Fall to Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (1-1) was able to hang in the game until late, but the Furman Paladins (1-0) were able to execute late and pull away to hand CofC the 72-58 defeat.

• Darien Huff scored a career-high 21 points on 9 of 17 shooting, adding three rebounds and three assists. The junior guard was a workhorse for the Cougars, playing 39 of a possible 40 minutes. Tanisha Brown stuffed the stat sheet, scoring 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting to go along with six assists, five rebounds, three steals and a block.

• CofC drew to within six midway through the fourth. It happened when Tanisha Brown muscled into the lane to force an and-one, which she converted. After Furman failed to score on their next possession, that set up a fast-break that finished with Bryanna Goodson nailing a three to finish the six-point swing.

• Foul trouble led to the Cougars' undoing, as Shiclasia Brown, Deja Ford and Lexi Maddox were all limited in playing time as they finished with four fouls each. The Cougars particularly felt the absence of Brown, who set a career-high against Lipscomb the game before with 29 points. Against the Paladins, she was held to just four in 19 minutes of play.

• The College was out-rebounded 44-33, and were outshot 45.2% to 36.5% from the field. Furman was also aggressive in the paint on the defensive end, finishing with eight blocks on the afternoon.

The Cougars will resume their road trip next weekend, when they travel to Michigan to take on Central Michigan and Michigan State.
