CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's basketball team (1-4) will look to snap its four-game skid this Sunday in TD Arena, when they host the Appalachian State Mountaineers (0-5) at 2 p.m.
The Cougars are 1-1 at home this season, with a win over Lipscomb and a loss on Wednesday to Campbell. Senior forward Tanisha Brown has been effective in TD Arena this season, averaging 19 points and nine rebounds when playing in the Lowcountry.
The two teams have an extensive history playing against one another, with Appalachian State holding the 23-18 edge in a series that dates back to 1975. The Cougars have won both encounters in each of the past two seasons, winning both in Charleston and Boone. The last time they played, the College prevailed 65-62 on the road despite enduring four players fouling out. Tanisha Brown tallied a double-double in that game with a 17-10 performance while shooting 7 of 12 from the field.
Appalachian State is winless this season, which includes two road losses to Radford and NC A&T by an average margin of 23 points. The Mountaineers come off a 12-19 season that saw them fall to No. 1 seed Little Rock in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament. Bayley Plummer leads the team this season from the front court, averaging 8 Pts, 12 Reb, 2 Blk and 2 Stl per game. Fourth year head coach Angel Elderkin calls the shots for the Mountaineers.
