CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (4-6) will look for its fourth win in five contests on Thursday at noon when they host Wake Forest (7-5) to close out their non-conference slate.
The Cougars won their previous two contests over the last week, going on the road to defeat North Florida 73-69 before returning home to dispatch Wofford 59-51. Tanisha Brown posted a game-high 17 points against the Terriers along with seven points, which followed up a 14-11 night against UNF three days prior. For the season, Brown is averaging team-highs in points (14.9 PPG) and rebounds (7.9 RPG), and is shooting 51.3% from the field, the fifth-best clip in the CAA. Shiclasia Brown meanwhile has been red hot from the charity stripe, shooting by far the best percentage in the conference at the line at 92.9%.
CofC has encountered Wake Forest just four times previously, with the Demon Deacons capturing the win on each occasion. It will be the first time the two teams have played since 2007, and the first time the Cougars have hosted the matchup since 1992.
After a slow 2-5 start to the season, Wake Forest has rallied to peel off five wins in a row dating back to the beginning of the month, which began with a two-point win over defending CAA champs Elon on Dec. 2. All told, the Deacons are 2-4 away from home this season, but won their most recent road game against Xavier. After missing the beginning of the season, Italian forward Elisa Penna has been a revelation for Wake Forest, drawing starts in the last four contests to lead the team in scoring with 13.7 PPG, most recently pouring in a career-high 24 in the 71-69 win over Charlotte.
