Cougars in Columbia to Clash with Gamecocks

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (2-5) will be in for the sternest test they face all season on Tuesday, when they match up against defending national champion South Carolina (8-1) at 7 p.m. in Colonial Life Arena. The game will be televised on SEC Network Plus.
The College comes off a thrilling 72-70 win against Coastal Carolina, a game that wasn't decided until free throws in the final second of the game. Tanisha Brown had a sterling effort against the Chanticleers, as the Myrtle Beach native recorded the 13th double-double of her career and scored a career-best 25 points.
The Cougars and Gamecocks have played one another 24 times on record, with USC owning the 15-9 edge in the series. South Carolina has won the last eight meetings, most recently an 81-54 victory in Columbia in 2013. Afreaeya Tolbert led the Cougars in that one with a 14-11 double-double.
After winning the NCAA Championship last season with a win over Mississippi State, the No. 5 Gamecocks have been red-hot to start the season. Most recently defeating the No. 14 Duke Blue Devils by 20 points on Sunday, South Carolina boasts a +26.6 scoring margin on the season. Six-foot-five center Aja Wilson is having a dominant season, averaging a 24-11 with three blocks and a steal per game.
