CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's basketball team (9-17, 6-9) hosts its final slate of weekend home games, starting Friday night at 7 p.m. when they host the Northeastern Huskies (10-17, 6-9) in TD Arena.
The Cougars split their two games last weekend, pulling off a dramatic 71-69 road-win against William & Mary before narrowly falling at home 84-78 to first place James Madison. Tanisha Brown garnered CAA Player of the Week honors, as the junior averaged 23 points and 9 rebounds while shooting 18 of 32 from the field.
Breanna Bolden continues her historic senior season, already controlling CofC Division I Era career records in scoring (1600), rebounding (812), steals (329), and field goals (611 made, 1535 attempted). Bolden ia averaging a conference-high 3.6 steals per game, and ranks among the Top 5 in points per game, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and rebounding.
The Cougars and Huskies have met seven times in the past, with Northeastern leading the series 4-3. The two teams met in Boston earlier in the season, where NU won 61-44 thanks to a poor shooting day from CofC. Breanna Bolden posted an impressive 21 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, but a 23 point night from Claudia Ortiz and a 13-15 double-double from Francesca Sally preserved the win for Northeastern.
Before playing the Cougars, NU struggled mightily posting nine losses in a ten-game span. However, the Huskies are currently on a three-game winning streak, having swept past Delaware and Towson last weekend. If the CAA Tournament started today, they would earn the No. 6 seed, the same as last season.
Sally leads the Huskies in both scoring and rebounding with 12 points and 8 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Jess Genco meanwhile leads the CAA in minutes per game (38.5), and is Top 5 in the assists department.
