CofC Wraps Up 4-0 Weekend With Wins Over LMU, UNCW

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston beach volleyball team made it a perfect 4-0 weekend at the CofC Beach Classic with a pair of 4-1 wins over Lincoln Memorial and UNC Wilmington on Saturday afternoon.
With the two victories, the College of Charleston (5-3) extends its winning streak to four, while Lincoln Memorial and UNC Wilmington fall to 2-7 and 8-4, respectively.
The Cougars' No. 1 tandem of Katja Ehlers (Raleigh, N.C.) and Maddie Hills (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) fell to LMU's Abby Cash and Jamie Jehne by scores of 24-22, 17-21, and 15-4. McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) and Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) answered with a 21-18, 21-16 win at No. 2, while Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Riana Brennan (Los Gatos, Calif.) registered a 21-10, 21-13 victory in the third flight.
A 21-18, 21-16 win for Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) and Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead, before Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) posted a 21-12, 21-14 in the fifth flight.
Against UNCW, the Cougars rallied from a 1-0 deficit with a 21-19, 29-31, 15-9 marathon win for Rhodes and Mummey in the second flight, which offset a 21-13, 21-12 setback in the opening flight. Madison and Brennan put the Cougars ahead with a 21-15, 21-14 victory in the third flight, while Rachel and Beckman took home a 21-19, 21-16 win at No. 4. Foley and Freed capped the win with a 21-17, 21-16 decision in the fifth flight.
The Cougars return to the courts next Saturday, April 1 when they travel to Wilmington, N.C. for the UNCW Beach Bash. Charleston will face Stevenson at 10:30 am, and host UNCW at 5:30 pm on the first day of the two-day event.
