Cougars Cruise To Sweep Of Quinnipiac Thursday

PULLMAN, Wash. --- Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) put down a match-high 12 kills, Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) tallied her fifth double-double of the season, and five Cougars recorded at least seven kills as the College of Charleston volleyball team opened the weekend at Washington State's Cougar Challenge with a straight-set sweep of Quinnipiac.
College of Charleston (4-1) won the match by scores of 25-14, 25-23, and 25-11, as the Cougars totaled 48 kills, 45 digs, six service aces, and posted a .304 hitting percentage. The College limited Quinnipiac (0-6) to 28 kills, 27 digs, and a .156 attacking clip on the night.
Mummey paced the Cougar attack with 12 kills and a .526 hitting percentage to continue her torrid start to the season. Freed added her fifth consecutive double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) dished out 36 assists to go along with six digs and one service ace.
Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) and Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) each added eight kills, as Jane Feddersen (Leesburg, Va.) tallied seven smashes on 14 swings without an error. McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) recorded 10 digs and a match-high three service aces.
Natalie Alechko led the way for Quinnipiac with 10 kills, while Maria Pansari dished out 17 assists. Morgan Sherwin and Elizabeth Kloos posted six and five blocks, respectively.
The Cougars will continue their weekend in Washington with two matches tomorrow. CofC will take on Incarnate Word at 2:30 pm PT, followed by host and No. 28 Washington State at 7:30 pm PT.
