CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston cross country program received conference-wide acclaim following a strong outing at Appalachian State's Mountains to Sea Duals, as both Heyden DiBona and Tess Masselink were named the CAA Men's and Women's CAA Runners of the Week.
Freshman Tess Masselink paced the College of Charleston women's cross country team for the second straight race, finishing fourth overall at Appalachian State's Mountains to Sea Duals. The freshman's 5K time of 17:53.53, which was run at the altitude and among the hills of Boone, N.C., was not only the 10th-fastest 5K time in school history, but also cemented her as the fifth-fastest 5K runner in school history. As a team, CofC finished third behind North Carolina and Appalachian State.
The College of Charleston men's cross country team achieved a fifth place finish at Appalachian State's Mountains to Sea Duals, and CofC sophomore Hayden DiBona paced the Cougars with a seventh place finish. Despite racing at altitude and on hilly terrain, the accomplished runner finished just five seconds shy of his collegiate PR, and submitted the 17th-best 8K time in school history when he crossed the finish line at 25:42.20.
Masselink and DiBona will return to action on September 30, when they will travel to Kentucky to race in the Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic.
