Peschiera, Williams Qualify For ICSA Singlehanded Nationals

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. --- Senior Steano Peschiera (Lima, Peru) went wire-to-wire, and cruised to a 19-point win at the SAISA Men's Singlehanded Championship, while junior Gerald Williams (Sai Kung, Hong Kong, China) finished third to send two College of Charleston sailors to ICSA Singlehanded Nationals on November 4-5 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Peschiera finished atop the standings with 15 points, and never placed lower than third throughout the event's 10 races. Williams took third with 35 points – one behind second-place Gage Wilson of Jacksonville after Wilson won the final race of the day to leapfrog the CofC junior. Freshman Benn Smith (Bermuda) placed seventh in a solid debut for the Cougars with 67 points.

The Cougars are back on the water for four regattas next weekend: North Points #3 on Saturday, September 30 in Clemson, S.C.; SAISA Women's Singlehanded on Saturday, September 30 in St. Petersburg, Fla.; Danmark Trophy on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1 in New London, Conn.; and SAISA Women's Fall Dinghy on Sunday, October 1 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
