CINCINNATI, Ohio – College of Charleston sophomore Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.) was the top finisher for the Cougars shooting a final-round 73 to tie for 26th (+1) at the 2017 Bearcat Invitational held at the Coldstream Country Club.
On the final day, Sass birdied the 5th, 13th and 15th at the par-71 course. Sophomore Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.) fired a 1-under 70 in the final round with three birdies to finish tied for 47th (+6).
As a team, the Cougars carded a three-round score of 871 (+19) and placed 12th overall in a field comprised of SEC and Big Ten competition. Kentucky won the team title with an 820 (-32) edging runner-up Arkansas by six strokes (-26).
"This was a tough week and start to the season," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "I truly did not know what to expect. We have some new faces and we played like a very young team. Our course management was not good, and as we are looking to find the identity of this team, course management has to be very good."
The Cougars will return to action at the FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove hosted by Middle Tennessee on Oct. 8-10 at The Grove Golf Club in Nashville, Tenn.
"I am really excited about this team," McEntire said. "The potential is there to be very good. We have to continue to learn each other, get healthy and grow as a unit. Nashville will be another great opportunity for us to improve. We have had some success at The Grove and look forward to working on a few things before our next tournament."
