
Cougars Sweep Oyster Bowl, Take Second at McMillan Cup

ST. MARY'S, Md. --- The College of Charleston sailing team delivered a pair of impressive fleet victories at the Oyster Bowl, and finished second at the McMillan Cup Offshore regatta to cap another strong weekend on the water.
The Cougars finished atop Fleet One at the Oyster Bowl with 87 points to beat out second place Navy's total of 113. Senior skipper Augie Dale (Pewaukee, Wis.) and junior crew Katie Lounsbury (Jensen Beach, Fla.) tied for first in A-Division with 52 points, while junior Steven Leuck (San Diego, Calif.) skippered the Cougars to a 13-point win in B-Division alongside senior crew Payton Alexander.
Charleston won Fleet Two at the Oyster Bowl by 10 points over George Washington. The Cougars finished the regatta with 99 points, including 31 points from a second-place performance by sophomore skipper Jack Brown (Newtown Square, Pa.) and sophomore crew Mary Morano (Edgartown, Mass.). Sophomore Jack Johansson (Miami, Fla.) skippered the Cougars to 68 points in B-Division with freshman crew Natasha Scott Morton.
At the McMillan Cup on Saturday and Sunday, senior driver William Comerford (Annapolis, Md.) paced the Cougars to a second-place finish with 14 points – six behind regatta winner SUNY Maritime. Sailing alongside Comerford were: junior main Jordan Wiggins (York, S.C.), junior primary Sam Tobio (Sarasota, Fla.), senior secondary Sarah Wilkinson (Mystic, Conn.), sophomore pit Emily Essi (Cleveland, Ohio), senior squirrel Franny Schulte (Birmingham, Mich.), sophomore mast Graham Post (East Grand Rapids, Mich.), sophomore bow Burke Anvari (Westport, Conn.), and senior alternate William Hundahl (Marblehead, Mass.).
The Cougars faced tough competition and challenging conditions at the Women's Showcase in Providence, R.I. en route route to a 10th-place finish with 264 points. Junior Allie Toppa (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) skippered Charleston to 102 points and a sixth-place showing in A-Division alongside senior crew Annabel Carrington (White Stone, Va.) and Caroline Bracken (Bridgewater, Mass.). Sophomore skipper Marian Williams (Sai Kung, Hong Kong, China), along with crew of junior Liza Toppa (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and senior Elizabeth Mignon (Bay Head, N.J.) finished with 162 points in B-Division.
The Cougars will set sail in two regattas next weekend: Coed Showcase Final on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21 in St. Mary's, Md.; and the Yale Women's on Saturday and Sunday in Stamford, Conn.
