CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston Head Coach Earl Grant and his staff have signed four future impact players to complete the program's Class of 2019 signing class.
Joining the Cougars for the 2019-20 season will be 6-foot-5, 200 pound forward DeAngelo Epps out of Carmel Christian School in Charlotte, N.C., 6-foot-7, 240 pound forward Dontavius King (pronounced DON-TAY-vee-US) out of Potter's House Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla., 6-foot-5, 185 pound guard Trevon Reddish (pronounced TREY-vonn) out of Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Ga., and 6-foot-3, 180 pound guard Brenden Tucker (pronounced BREN-Den) out of Dacula High School in Dacula, Ga.
"We are extremely excited to be adding a terrific group of young men to our basketball program," Grant said. "My staff really worked hard to build relationships with these players and their families. We believe this group will bring a lot of energy to the program and allow us to continue to move it forward."
Epps adds another level of athleticism to the Cougars' incoming class. As a junior, he averaged 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game at Carmel Christian School. He received numerous NCAA Division I offers and chose CofC over Murray State, Austin Peay, Canisius, Kent State and Western Carolina. Epps plays for one of the top teams in the Charlotte area in Carmel Christian under head coach Joe Badgett. He also played AAU Basketball for Team Charlotte coached by Jeff McInnis. An all-state and CISAA all-conference selection, Epps participated this summer in the 2018 North Carolina Top 80 Camp.
"DeAngelo plays with a lot of spirit and grit," Grant said. "He has a nose for the ball and is constantly involved in winning plays. He is a physical specimen and his size and skill will allow him to play multiple positions. He is very explosive attacking the basket and rebounds with tenacity. I'm excited to see how he develops in our program in the years to come."
King, who goes by Donta, fits the mold of a College of Charleston versatile forward to a T. He chose CofC over the likes of other mid-majors powers such as Buffalo and East Tennessee State. Last season, King averaged 18.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game as a junior. He will spend his senior season on one of the most talented high school rosters in the country at Potter's House Christian Academy. King also played AAU Basketball for Team SC and Team EAT.
"Dontavius is a unique talent, because of his combination of size and skill," Grant said. "He is big, physical and athletic, but he can also shoot the 3-point shot. He has a presence in the paint because of his physicality. His ability to attack the basketball from the perimeter gives him great versatility. He is a high-level rebounder and has the ability to lead the fast break. I am excited to have him join our program."
Reddish is a long, talented point guard that will bring the Cougars' roster to the next level. Last year, he averaged 12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy. The Class 5 A-Private All-Region Boys Basketball Team selection chose CofC over Temple, Murray State, Jacksonville State, Indiana State and Georgia Southern. Reddish also played AAU Basketball for Team Forrest under CofC Basketball alum Marcus Woods and James Forrest.
"Trevon has a really high basketball IQ," Grant said. "He has great vision with the ball and is always looking to make his teammates better. He is a jack-of-all-trades because of his size and skill set. He is a very good rebounding guard and is explosive in the open court. He has a great mid-range game and will post up from the guard position. He really enjoys playing defense and has the tools to guard multiple positions. I'm excited to have him join our program."
Tucker is regarded as one of the most-explosive players in the Southeast and one of the Top 10 players in the state of Georgia. A four-star recruit in the Class of 2019, he received numerous NCAA Division I offers and chose CofC over Georgia, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Seton Hall, Oregon State, Xavier and Florida Gulf Coast. Last season, he averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a junior at Dacula High School outside of Atlanta. Tucker is looking to major in communication at College of Charleston.
"Brenden is very wiry and has a great combination of speed and athleticism," Grant said. "He is wired to score and has a knack for finishing at the rim. He is really good with the ball in his hands and creates his own shot well. Brenden has the tools to be a great defensive player and I'm excited to see how he develops once he gets to campus."
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT DEANGELO EPPS
"DeAngelo is a quiet, funny kid who has an infectious personality that rubs off on his teammates which makes him a natural leader. He is tough, will never back down and plays very hard. We are excited for him and what he can do at College of Charleston." – AAU Team Charlotte Head Coach Jeff McInnis
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT DONTAVIUS KING
"Dontavius King is an incredible individual with an infectious personality. He is an extremely talented player with an enormous amount of potential. He is a mismatch nightmare who can guard multiple positions. He is athletic and skilled. He can play on both the interior and perimeter. He will only get better with time." – Potter's House Christian Academy Assistant Coach Lorenzo Jenkins
"Dontavius is a high-energy kid that plays above the rim. He is also a kid that is willing to run through a brick wall for you, if he knows you have his back. That's what College of Charleston is getting in (Dontavius) King." – AAU Team SC Head Coach Lamont Simmons
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT TREVON REDDISH
"Trevon is a player that can score on all three levels with efficiency. He possesses the grit and tenacity to be a very good player in the CAA. His ability to make plays on the defensive end is also noteworthy. He has the ability to get to his spots at will and his vision is elite. He can defend four positions and his high-rate rebounding will afford Coach Grant some liberties with his lineup when he arrives. Tre' makes no bones about wanting to be perceived as a true student-athlete which is supported by his commitment in the classroom. He is a real leader in that regard. CofC Basketball Alumni take pride in playing a certain style of winning basketball as well as striving for success in the classroom and in life after basketball. Trevon Reddish is a kid that all former Cougars can be extremely excited about bringing into the family and feel comfortable about him carrying on that legacy." – AAU Team Forrest Head Coach and CofC Basketball Alum Marcus Woods

"Brenden is a student-athlete who is focused on his academics and being the best player and person on-and-off the court. He is an explosive combo guard who has the quickest first step I have ever seen. He plays both guard spots and is an exceptional athlete who plays above the rim. College of Charleston is getting a player who puts God first and who will be an all-conference guard as soon as his steps on campus." – AAU Game Elite Head Coach Reco Hallmon
