Huff Scores 20 As Charleston Falls to Furman

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Darien Huff scored 20 points for her fifth straight double-digit scoring performance as the College of Charleston women's basketball team fell 70-67 to Furman on Saturday afternoon inside TD Arena.
For the second game straight Huff opened the scoring with a three after Deja Ford drove into the paint and kicked it out. Furman knocking down a pair of free throws before Huff turned provider for Baileigh Larson to lay in and level the game up at 12-12.
The Paladins rally continued into the second period to take a six-point lead at the media timeout, the Charleston offense going cold. A Madison Taylor layup got Charleston rolling to cut into the Furman lead with Huff completing an 'and one' to finish out the half and pull Charleston within a point at 29-28.
A Fast break by Tyler Collins and Huff tied the game in the third, another Huff three gave Charleston the lead for her fifth straight double-digit scoring performance.
A 12-1 run by the offense gave Charleston a 40-33 lead midway through the third, with the defense holding Furman scoreless on their last 7 possessions.
Furman then forced their own run, making four of five straight, to take a three-point lead until Charleston battled back; Collins hitting 50 career points with a pair of free throws.
Midway through the fourth Ford hit a three in-front of the Cougars bench to give CofC the lead; Collins hitting her first of the game to make it 57-53.
As the clock wound down the teams exchanged baskets, Huff hitting a pair at the charity stripe to tie the game at 64-64 with 90 seconds left. Collins hit a three to give CofC a 67-66 lead, Furman responding with a layup to re-take the lead.
A Charleston turnover with the final seconds remaining gave the Paladins the initiative, two free throws putting the game on ice at 70-67.
With the loss, CofC moves to 2-3 on the year and look to Thursday evenings matchup against Winthrop. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. inside TD Arena with the game broadcast live on the Charleston Sports Network.
