CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team close out November with a Thursday evening matchup against in-state rival Winthrop. The Eagles (1-5) and the Cougars (2-3) will tipoff at 6:30 p.m. live on the Charleston Sports Network with live stats available at CofCStats.com.

SCOUTING WINTHROP
• The Eagles sit at 1-5 on the season having dropped their last three matchups.
• The lone victory came against North Carolina Central (66-41) on Nov. 14.
• Winthrop opened the year with two tough road games at Power Five schools, Wisconsin (L, 76-41) and Georgia (L, 85-39), most recently dropping games at Wofford 70-53, two days after Charleston fell to the Bulldogs, and at CAA-rival James Madison on Sunday.
• In last weekend's 56-39 loss to the Dukes, Anika Riley led the offense with 8 points and is second on the team averaging 8.0 points per game.
• Kem Nwabudu leads the team averaging 9.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
• Winthrop have been picked to finish 11th in the Big South Preseason Coaches Poll after failing to win in 11 games on the road last season.

"We've been playing well in two of our last three games and they just didn't turn out how the way we wanted… I would say the biggest thing for us is to rebound the ball and we have to be able to play good defense without fouling… We also have to continue to score the ball at a high volume, the way that we have been... I think that we really have started to gain a lot more confidence in our scoring, we have opportunities from each position and just need to capitalize on those opportunities."
NATIONALLY RANKED
• As a team, Charleston are converting at a 45% percent clip from deep - the 2nd highest conversation rate in the United States.
• With a 77% free throw percentage, the Cougars are ranked 34th in the NCAA.
• Individually, freshman guard Tyler Collins leads the Colonial Athletic Association in assists per game with 7.2; ranking her 5th in the NCAA.
• Collins' 36 season assists rank her 16th in the USA and 1st in the CAA.
• Senior guard Darien Huff is shooting 94% from the free throw line - good for 2nd in the CAA and 13th in the NCAA.
UPPERCLASSMEN IMPROVEMENTS
• Through the opening five games of this season, senior/junior duo Darien Huff and Deja Ford have improved considerably from 2017 to 2018.
• Huff is averaging nearly a minute less in terms of playing time but averaging nearly 4 points more with a rise from 10.8 to 14.2 from year to year.
• Huff's converting from the field at a 46% rate, 48% from deep, compared to 41%/34% at this point a year ago.
• Ford's shooting numbers have also jumped considerably... last year shooting just 27% and 23% compared to a 48% and 61% rate this season.
• Both are an integral part of a backcourt that has helped improve the Cougars points per game average from 57.8 to 72.0.
UP NEXT
• Charleston begin December with a road trip to Appalachian State in Boone, N.C., on Sunday before taking a two week break for finals week. On Dec. 16 the women travel to Nashville, Tenn., for a matchup against Lipscomb.
