CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's golf team will open its spring season against a strong field at the SunTrust Gator Invitational hosted by the University of Florida on Feb. 17-18 at the par-70 Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
This is just the beginning for the Cougars, who will be on a quest for their fifth-straight Colonial Athletic Association title by season's end.
Sophomore Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.) – the 2017 CAA Rookie of the Year – will start this weekend along with sophomore Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.), sophomore Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.), freshman Raphael Geissler (Karlsruhe, Germany) and freshman Reed Bentley (Spartanburg, S.C.).
This will be the first career start for Bentley, who was rated the No. 2 golfer in the Class of 2017 in the state of South Carolina. Sass and Dunagan started for the Cougars in last year's CAA Men's Golf Championship and NCAA Regional appearance in Tuscaloosa.
"We are ready to get this team going for the spring," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We played some great golf to end the fall and hope that we pick up right where we left off. This is the strongest field we will play this spring and I know this team is looking forward to the challenge. This golf course requires patience where par is a very good score."
The 16-team tournament field includes host Florida, Arkansas, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Liberty, Lipscomb, Mississippi State, Missouri, Troy, UAB, UCF, North Florida, South Florida and Vanderbilt.
