GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.) was the College of Charleston men's golf team's top finisher wrapping up the SunTrust Gator Invitational with a three-round score of 211 (+1) on Sunday at the par-70 Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Sass tied for 22nd with a final-round 72 in the 90-player field comprised of 14 Top 100-ranked golfers. The Cougars, meanwhile, placed 14th on the team leaderboard with a three-round score of 871 (+31) ahead of Mississippi State and Troy. The competitive field included four Top 25-ranked teams with No. 5 Vanderbilt winning the tournament title over host Florida with an 822 (-18).
"Not sure what happened today," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We made to many big numbers to shoot a good score and our youth showed. This is a veteran golf course and does not give up many birdies. I know that we are better than the way we played today. We have some work to do before we head out to Arizona next week."
CofC will next travel out west for the two-day Loyola Maryland Intercollegiate hosted by Loyola Maryland on Feb. 25-26 at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
