Equestrians Win Spring Opener at Georgia Southern

BROOKLET, Ga. – The College of Charleston equestrian team won the spring season-opening IHSA Show hosted by Georgia Southern on Feb. 3 at Evermore Farm.
The Cougars posted 40 points followed by host Georgia Southern's 37 points. The team now leads IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 by 23 points over second-place South Carolina.
Freshman Makenna Grierson won Section A of Novice Fences followed by junior Sammie Barton's win in Section B of Novice Fences.
Junior Shannon Rice started the flat portion of the day with a win in Open Flat Section B, while Barton won her section of Intermediate Flat.
Junior Jenna McIntosh followed with a win in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter and sophomore Ruby Gonzales closed out the day for the Cougars by winning her section of Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter.
Qualifying for Regional Finals were Gonzales in Walk/Trot/Canter, Rice in Open Flat and senior Hannah Showell in Open Fences.
CofC will next compete at the two-day Wofford Show on Feb. 24-25 at Clearview Farm in Landrum, S.C.
