Women's Tennis Successfully Soars Past Savannah State

SAVANNAH, GA. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team improved to 3-1 on the season, cruising past Savannah State for the 7-0 win.
The Cougars split their lower two doubles flights, earning victory in court two with a 6-1 win for Laura Arciniegas and Turner Yates. That set the groundwork for Anastasia Palaska and Christi Woodson to grind out the 7-5 win in top flight action to secure the point.
Yates struck first in singles action, blitzing through Muskaan Ranjan in flight four for the 6-0, 6-2 win. Helena Nyikos was right behind her with a 6-1, 6-1 win in top flight action to put the Tigers on the 3-0 brink.
Arciniegas earned the distinction of winning the match for the Cougars, picking up the decisive fourth point over Rachida El Kateb in flight five.
The top doubles team of Woodson and Palaska were victorious on courts two and three in singles action respectively, while freshman Ava Turner capped things off with a 7-5, 6-1 win on court six over Shakendra Alston to claim the first victory of her collegiate career.
CofC improves their Division I Era record against Savannah State to 5-0, having won every encounter by 7-0 margins.
The Cougars, who have now officially eclipsed the halfway mark of their seven-match road trip, will return to action Friday when they head to Charlotte to challenge the 49ers.
