CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston track & field program kicks off its outdoor season this weekend when they travel to Conway to take part in the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina.
Friday's field competition begins at 10 a.m. with the javelin, while track events get underway at 11:00 a.m. with the 200m. Things will wrap up for the day with the conclusion of the 5000m run, which begins at 6:45 p.m. As for Saturday, things lead off with the long jump at 9 a.m., and continue to the conclusion of the meet with the 4x400m relay, which begins at 5 p.m.
The Cougars will be among a field of 34 schools at the meet, including the likes of Albany, American, Hampton, Manhattan, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Mount St. Mary's, North Dakota, Slippery Rock, Tennessee State, UMass-Lowell, and CAA Rival UNCW.
The Cougars will look to continue the momentum from a strong indoor campaign. From December through February, the College wound up with several new entries into the school's Top 10 Performance Lists, with some of the most impressive performances coming in the sprints and throws behind freshman Marissa Linkous and sophomore Simone Harris respectively.
The Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational has been a frequent stop for the Cougars over the years, with their last appearance at the meet coming two seasons ago. That occasion marked a strong performance by the College in the relays, with both the 4x100m (47.64) and 4x400m (3:54.17) teams submitting Top 2 performances in school history.
