
Top Pairs Key Cougars To Wins Over No. 20 Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville

TAVARES, Fla. --- The College of Charleston beach volleyball team rallied from a 0-2 deficit to defeat No. 20 Florida Atlantic in the morning session, before sweeping Jacksonville in the evening to open the Hickory Point Lake Bash with a 2-0 day on Friday.
College of Charleston (4-2) picked up its second win over a nationally ranked opponent with its victory against No. 20 Florida Atlantic. The Cougars fell behind 2-0 after fours and fives, with both matches going to three sets. Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) pushed it to three at fours with a 21-18 second-set win, but fell in set three, 15-11.
Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) took set one, 21-17, at fives before falling 19-21, 13-15. Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) and Katja Ehlers (Raleigh, N.C.) got the rally going with a 22-20, 21-18 win at ones, before Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Riana Brennan (Los Gatos, Calif.) evened the match at 2-2 with a 24-22, 21-12 victory at threes. Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) and McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) delivered the deciding point with a 21-18, 17-21, 15-7 win at twos.
The Cougars cruised past Jacksonville (0-5) in the afternoon session with a straight sweep. Beckman and Freed won at fours, 21-15, 17-21, 15-11 to get The College going, before Foley and Manusky posted a 21-11, 21-19 victory at fives. Mummey and Ehlers took ones, 21-17, 21-16, to put the Cougars up 3-0, while Rachel and Rhodes won 21-16, 21-13 at twos. Madison and Brennan closed it out with a 21-16, 21-13 victory at threes.
The Cougars return to the courts on Saturday to wrap up the weekend at the Hickory Point Lake Bash. Charleston will take on No. 13 Florida International at 12:00 pm, followed by a 3:00 pm matchup with New Mexico.
