BATON ROUGE, La. --- The No. 21 College of Charleston beach volleyball team battled for every point in a pair of tightly contested affairs on the final day of the Tiger Beach Challenge on Sunday, but ultimately fell to No. 10 LSU, 4-1, and No. 17 Stetson, 3-2, to conclude its Spring Break swing.
In the first match of the day, the Cougars fell behind early against host LSU with straight set decisions at fours and fives going in the Tigers' favor. Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Riana Brennan (Los Gatos, Fla.) snatched the lone point for the Cougars in the contest with a 21-18, 21-19 win at threes.
The Cougars rebounded early against No. 17 Stetson, and took a 2-0 lead into the second court rotation.
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) won at fours, 22-20, 21-15, followed by a 23-21, 21-19 victory from Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) at fives.
Stetson would bounce back with straight set wins at ones and twos to even the match at 2-2, before a 21-18, 21-15 decision at threes handed the Hatters the narrow 3-2 come-from-behind victory.
Charleston will return to the sand on Friday, March 30 when the Cougars travel to Wilmington, N.C. to participate in the UNCW Tournament. The Cougars will take on Missouri Baptist and 8:30 am, followed by a 3:00 pm matchup with host UNCW on Friday.
