
Cougars Equal Program-Record At Dig And Dive Invitational

WILMINGTON, N.C. --- The No. 19 College of Charleston beach volleyball team made quick work of Missouri Baptist and UNC Wilmington at the UNCW Dig & Dive Invitational on Friday, while two Cougar duos earned a bye into the semifinal round of the Pairs Tournament.
College of Charleston (11-6) swept Missouri Baptist, 5-0, in the morning session, before posting a 4-1 win over host UNCW in the afternoon. Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) posted a 21-7, 21-10 win at fours against Missouri Baptist, before Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) won 21-12, 21-10 at fives to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) and Katja Ehlers (Raliegh, N.C.) were victorious at ones with a 21-15, 21-11 decision to clinch the team win, while Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) and McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) won at twos 21-19, 21-10. Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Riana Brennan (Los Gatos, Calif.) defeated MBU's threes, 21-6, 21-10; Lauren Hollman (Union, Ky.) and Britney Vallez (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) won at sixes, 21-4, 21-8.
In the afternoon session, the Cougars defeated UNCW, 4-1, to equal their program-record win total of 11 from last season. Beckman and Freed opened the dual with a 21-17, 21-11 win at fours, while Foley and Manusky delivered a 21-18, 21-13 victory at fives. After dropping a point at ones in straight sets, Rachel and Rhodes won 21-14, 21-13 at twos to seal the victory. Madison and Brennan posted a 21-17, 21-16 win at threes, as Hollman and Vallez won at sixes, 21-12, 21-16.
The tandem of Mandy Napierala (Irondequoit, N.Y.) and Natalie Tucker (Isle of Palms, S.C.) finished round one play in pool two of the Pairs Tournament with a 4-0 record to earn a bye into the semifinals. Megan Morris (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.)/Jane Feddersen (Leesburg, Va.) went 3-1 in pool one to earn a bye into the semifinals as well. Both pairs will compete in the semifinals on Saturday. Peyton Eisnaugle (Dallas, Texas) and Ella Ridinger (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) posted a 1-3 mark in pool two, and dropped two sets in the quarterfinals to finish fifth.
Charleston will wrap up the Dig and Dive Invitational on Saturday with two duals, and the semifinals of the Pairs Tournament. The Cougars will open the day with a 10:00 am matchup with North Florida, followed by a 1:00 pm tilt against Webber International.
