AWENDAW, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's golf team got four under-par rounds on the final day of The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate including a final-round 68 from sophomore Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.) at Bulls Bay Golf Club on Tuesday.
Dunagan eagled the par-5 4th and birdied the 6th, 9th, 10th and 16th as the Cougars' top finisher at the tournament. He tied for 19th shooting 2-under par with a first-round 71 and second-round 75.
Sophomore Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.) tied for 29th individually with rounds of 73, 75 and 70 – also with an eagle on the par-5 4th during the final round.
Sophomore Colin Hamilton (Southlake, Texas) shot a 3-under 69 and freshman Reed Bentley (Spartanburg, S.C.) a 71 to give the Cougars a 10-under round on the final day.
CofC placed 10th overall with a three-round score of 868 (+4), which was one stroke shy of three-time defending tournament champion South Carolina (+3) in ninth.
Ole Miss won the team title shooting 23-under par for the tournament followed by runner-up Kent State (-22). Kentucky was third (-20), Iowa State fourth (-9), Missouri fifth (-8), Wisconsin and Auburn tied for sixth (-6) and NC State eighth (-4). Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss was the individual medalist (-13).
"We played great today with four rounds under par," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "We wanted to shoot a double-digit number and we did. It was nice to get a win over Top 40-ranked Louisville and a Georgia Southern team that we battled last week at The Schenkel Invitational. We may be short of an at-large (NCAA Regional) bid this year, but have one tourney left before the conference championship."
Up next, the Cougars will compete at The Stitch Intercollegiate on April 13-15 at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Raleigh, N.C.
