Napierala/Tucker Win Pairs Championship, Cougars Sweep UNF, Webber International Saturday

WILMINGTON, N.C. --- Mandy Napierala (Irondequoit, N.Y.) and Natalie Tucker (Isle of Palms, S.C.) lost just one set en route to a championship in the pairs tournament, and the No. 19 College of Charleston beach volleyball team swept North Florida and Webber International to set a new program-record for single-season wins on Saturday.
College of Charleston (13-6) swept both North Florida and Webber International – losing only two sets between the two duals – to surpass its single-season wins mark of 11 set last spring. Napierala and Tucker advanced to the championship match in the pairs tournament with a 21-17, 21-19 semifinal victory before rallying to win the championship, 17-21, 21-16, 16-14.
Megan Morris (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) and Jane Feddersen (Leesburg, Va.) dropped a three-set decision in the semifinal round by scores of 13-21, 21-15, 13-15 before falling in straight sets, 13-21, 16-21 in the third-place match to finish fourth.
Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) opened the day with a 25-23, 21-11 win at fives against North Florida, before Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) registered a 21-18, 25-23 victory at fours to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) and McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) won 21-15, 21-14 at twos for the deciding point.
Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) and Katja Ehlers (Raleigh, N.C.) posted a 21-19, 21-23, 15-10 victory at ones, while Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Riana Brennan (Los Gatos, Calif.) rallied to win at threes, 20-22, 21-14, 15-8. Lauren Hollman (Union, Ky.) and Britney Vallez (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) won at sixes, 21-19, 21-11.
The Cougars continued to roll against Webber International, and did not drop a set against the Warriors. Beckman and Manusky won 21-8, 21-6 at fives, and Beckman and Freed posted a 21-9, 21-10 victory at fours to give the Cougars an early 2-0 lead. At twos, Rachel and Rhodes cruised to a 21-12, 21-9 win for the deciding point, while Madison and Brennan won at threes, 21-13, 21-14. Mummey and Ehlers capped the day with a 21-16, 21-13 victory at ones; Hollman and Vallez won at sixes, 21-9, 21-16.
Charleston will return to the sand on Friday, April 13 at the Palmetto Invitational, hosted by South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. The Cougars will take on Tulane at 11:00 am on Friday, followed by a 3:00 pm matchup with Missouri State.
