MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (9-3) played Tuesday's tilt with Providence (1-4) with a short-handed lineup, but that didn't prevent the Cougars from knocking off the Friars 7-0.
Christi Woodson sat out of the match, as did Helena Nyikos for the singles portion. Yet that didn't stop the Cougars from achieving two quick 6-1 doubles victories on courts one and three to snag the early point from the Friars.
Anastasia Palaska sat out of her usual top flight doubles matchup, and took advantage of her fresh legs to blitz past Katie Marvin on court three to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Laura Arciniegas followed that up with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court five, and freshman Ava Turner grabbed her second straight singles match 7-6, 6-1 in flight six to seal the match for the College.
Elsewhere, Catalina Medici extended her team-best singles record to 8-1 by way of a 6-2, 6-1 win on court two over Aidan Epstein. Rachel McNeely won her top flight encounter with Risa Takenaka 6-4, 6-1, and Turner Yates rounded things out with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court four.
The Cougars turn it around for another match Wednesday when they host Campbell at 1 p.m.
