CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston equestrian team will compete this weekend at the IHSA Zone 5 Finals hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) on Saturday, April 7 in Savannah, Ga.
In team competition, the equestrians will be represented by sophomore Elif Caynak in Walk/Trot, sophomore Samantha Bledsoe in Walk/Trot/Canter, sophomore Gabrielle Bernier in Novice Flat and Intermediate Fences, sophomore Molly Coyle in Novice Fences, junior Sophia Meserve in Intermediate Flat, junior Shannon Rice in Open Flat and senior Rio Parker in Open Fences.
In addition, CofC qualified five individual riders out of IHSA Regionals for Zone Finals including sophomore Elizabeth High in Walk/Trot, freshman Ruby Gonzales in Walk/Trot/Canter, Coyle in Novice Flat, Meserve in Novice Fences and Parker in Intermediate Fences.
"IHSA Zone Finals is the most important competition of the year," CofC Head Coach Bob Story said. "If the team, or individual riders, don't finish in the Top 2, then the season is over. All of the riders have worked hard towards this competition. The SCAD facility is a beautiful venue and we look forward to riding against the best riders in the Southeast."
The Top 2 finishers in the team standings and Top 2 finishers in each individual event will advance to IHSA Nationals to be held on May 3-6 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pa.
