CHARLESTON, S.C. – Another PGA TOUR Championship course will challenge the College of Charleston men's golf team as it heads to the Lone Star State to compete at the Trinity Forest Invitational hosted by SMU on Sept. 23-25 at the par-71 Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas.
The 13-team tournament field includes host SMU, Abilene Christian, Ball State, Baylor, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sam Houston State, UTSA, Florida, Little Rock, New Mexico and North Texas. The Gators are the defending tournament champions.
The links-style course, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, will play at 7,302 yards. Trinity Forest will be the future home of the PGA TOUR's AT&T Byron Nelson Championship.
"As a team, we are looking to carry on from a great start to the season," CofC Head Coach Mitch Krywulcyz said. "This weekend will be a great test for our student-athletes as Trinity Forest is home to an elite PGA TOUR event that will offer our players a true test early in the fall. I expect we will learn a lot from this trip regarding unique playing conditions, travel and golf course design that will help us later on in the year."
The Cougars are coming off a one-hole playoff win over SMU at The Invitational at The Ocean Course on Sept. 9-10 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C. They will use the same starting lineup of junior Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.), junior Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.), junior Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.), sophomore Raphael Geissler (Karlsruhe, Germany) and junior Christian Baliker (Greenville, S.C.).
Each 18-hole round will be split tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at noon (CT) / 1 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, 9 a.m. (CT) / 10 a.m. (ET) on Monday and 8 a.m. (CT) / 9 a.m. (ET) on Tuesday.
CofC will be paired with UTSA and Ball State in the opening round. Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com
