
Cougars Get Back Into The Show Ring at Two-Day Lander Horse Show

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Another doubleheader weekend is up next for the College of Charleston equestrian team with the two-day Lander University Horse Show co-hosted by Lander and Clemson on Oct. 19-20 in Greenwood, S.C.
Day One will have junior Brooke Hayes (Harwich, Mass.) competing in the Walk/Trot class, sophomore Morgan Hazeltine (Hingham, Mass.) in the Pre-Novice class and both junior Cassidy Hyatt (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior Alyson Bushey (Beaufort, S.C.) in the Novice Flat class.
Three Cougars will ride in Limit Flat – senior Stephanie Hustad (Lansdale, Pa.), sophomore Winter Hein (Buffalo, N.Y.) and sophomore Chloe Esposito (Providence, R.I.).
Sophomore Michaela Califano (Holbrook, N.Y.) and junior Makenna Grierson (Laguna Beach, Calif.) will compete in Limit Fences, freshman Ava Brugger (Bethesda, Md.) and freshman Emma Pigman (Sewickley, Pa.) in Intermediate Flat, senior Molly Coyle (Davidsonville, Md.) and sophomore Claire Thalhimer (Richmond, Va.) in Intermediate Fences, senior Olivia Baldwin (Potomac, Md.) and sophomore Kate Coffey (Westford, Mass.) in Open Flat and senior Gabrielle Bernier (Parkton, Md.) and Coffey in Open Jumping.
Last weekend, Coffey was the reserve high-point champion leading the Cougars to a first-place team finish on Day One of competition at the two-day USC IHSA Show held at Three Fox Farm in Blythewood, S.C.
"The team is back on the road this weekend for another doubleheader – this time at Lander University," CofC Head Coach Natasha V. McCarthy said. "My eye is absolutely on an overall regional championship. Our goal is to remain strong, mentally focused and positive for this weekend. We would like to pull out a few more wins, and therefore, are eager to get back into the show ring."
On Day Two, Hayes, Hazeltine, Hyatt, Bushey, Hustad, Brugger, Pigman, Coyle, Baldwin, Coffey and Bernier will compete in the same classes as in Saturday competition, while sophomore Jennifer Haines (Millstone, N.J.) and sophomore Kendra de Graaf (Fort Mill, S.C.) will ride in the Limit Flat class on Sunday.
Sophomore Meredith Hutchens (Newport News, Va.) and freshman Leah Hirsch (Dallas, Texas) will compete in Limit Fences and freshman Emma Avent (Arlington, Va.) in Intermediate Fences with Coyle.
