KAPOLEI, Hawai'i – College of Charleston freshman Emily Dunlap (Greenville, S.C.) carded an opening-round 72 on the first day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational held at the Kapolei Golf Club.
The first-year player for the Cougars has now shot par-or-better in seven of her last eight rounds. She birdied her last holes on the front and back nines and is currently in an eight-way tie for sixth in the 81-player field.
"Well, it took us nine holes before anyone made a birdie today," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "Despite the slow start, we managed to stay in the tournament with a good back nine. The four birdies on the final hole is definitely a pick-me-up going into the second round."
As a team, CofC is tied for fourth with Grand Canyon at +8 on the day. Sam Houston State is the early leader at 1-over par followed by Sacramento State (+2) in second and Weber State (+6) in third.
The average score on Day One was 76.81 at the par-72 course.
The Cougars will tee-off tomorrow from the No. 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m. (HT) / 1:30 p.m. (ET). Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com
