
Cougars Race to Team, Individual Titles at Charleston Classic

Charleston, S.C. – Tess Masselink led a sweep of the top five spots for the College of Charleston women, and Hayden DiBona paced six Cougar men in the top 10 as both squads took the team championship at the Charleston Classic on Saturday at John Island County Park.
Masselink, competing for the first time this fall, had a time of 18:29.74 in the 5K race to win by almost 30 seconds. The junior has now led the Cougars in all 12 of her career races. Freshman Rhian Purves, who was first among the Charleston women the first two meets of the year, was the runner-up in 18:59.60.
Rounding out the top five were Cate Ambrose (19:04.54), Amber Scott (19:13.46) and Kristen Cherry (19:43.44).
DiBona has been the top finisher for the Cougar men in all three races this fall, and his time of 26:28.22 in the 8K on Saturday outdistanced the field by 34 seconds. Tyler Fish (fourth, 27:12.46) and Ryan Moosbrugger (fifth, 27:22.63) also placed in the top five.
Zac Palmer was eighth (27:32.10), Evan Peirce took ninth (27:35.52) and Sam Beattie was 10th (27:38.14).
Also competing for the women were Isabel Muehleman (20:57.08), Eileen Vedder (21:00.16), Annie D'Amaro (21:54.24) and Laurie Fogleman (22:21.82).
Kade Gosnell (27:51.64) and Will McCann (28:24.64) completed the list of Charleston's men's entries.
The regular season concludes on October 18 at the Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C. The CAA Championships takes place on November 2 in New Market, Va.
