CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's golf team looks to defending its title at the Kiawah Classic at Turtle Point hosted by Charleston Southern on Nov. 3-5 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C.
Last year, the Cougars won the tournament title with a three-stroke victory over runner-up Memphis led by a co-individual medalist finish from senior Christian Baliker (Greenville, S.C.), who shot 7-under par with a 54-hole total of 209.
This year's field includes host CSU, Augusta, Auburn, CofC, Cincinnati, Hampton, Eastern Kentucky, Winthrop, Chattanooga, Francis Marion, High Point, Western Carolina, Furman, Samford, Memphis, Appalachian State, Radford, USC Upstate, Jacksonville State, Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb.
Baliker will play as an individual along with junior Raphael Geissler (Karlsruhe, Germany).
Starting for the Cougars in their fall season closer will be senior Logan Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.), senior Hunter Dunagan (Augusta, Ga.), junior Patrick Golden (Murrells Inlet, S.C.), freshman Luke Hackworth (Charlotte, N.C.) and senior Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.).
"To close out the fall season on Kiawah Island is a phenomenal opportunity," CofC Head Coach Mitch Krywulycz said. "As a program, it's the perfect place to gain confidence heading into our winter development training block. Our student-athletes love playing at Turtle Point and they are eager to defend last year's title. The weather is shaping up to make for a perfect fall event and should offer the opportunity for some low rounds."
Sunday and Monday of the tournament will be split tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 holes beginning at 7:30 a.m. (ET), while Tuesday's final round will be a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (ET).
The Cougars will be paired with Radford, Eastern Kentucky and Chattanooga in tomorrow's opening round and tee-off the No. 1 beginning at 8:20 a.m. (ET). Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com
