CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston equestrian team will host its first and lone home show of the season – the CofC/Coastal Carolina Fall IHSA Classic – on Saturday, Nov. 23 at White Horses Boarding and Training Facility in Huger, S.C.
The draw will start at 8 a.m. (ET) followed by the first competition on the course at 8:30 a.m. (ET).
"We are without a doubt excited to host our first competition this Saturday out at our new training facility," CofC Head Coach Natasha V. McCarthy said. "Coach Shannon (O'Brien) and I have examined our roster inside-and-out and feel confident in the team we have selected to ride for us."
The show will be the final competition this fall for the Cougars until the spring. Sophomore Kate Coffey (Westford, Mass.), senior Molly Coyle (Davidsonville, Md.) and senior Olivia Baldwin (Potomac, Md.) will all compete in Open Flat, while more blue-ribbon rides versus Coastal are the goal for Coffey in Open Fences along with sophomore Camilla Grover-Dodge (Lancaster, Pa.).
In the Intermediate Flat Class, the Cougars will be represented by junior Beverly Davis (Concord, N.C.) and senior Gabrielle Bernier (Parkton, Md.). Davis will also compete in Intermediate Fences as will freshman Emma Avent (Arlington, Va.).
"You'll see mostly seasoned competitors, who we know will ride confidently, answer the questions, and get the job done," McCarthy said. "Hopefully, we will hammer out a big win for us here at home."
Rounding out the other Cougars set to compete this weekend are junior Allyson Pace (Charlotte, N.C.) and senior Samantha Bledsoe (St. Charles, Ill.) in Limit Fences, while Bledsoe is also in the Limit Flat class with junior Makenna Grierson (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Jennifer Haines (Millstone, N.J.).
Three more equestrians – junior Cassidy Hyatt (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore Morgan Hazeltine (Hingham, Mass.) and senior Elif Caynak (Fort Mill, S.C.) – will all compete in Novice Flat and junior Brooke Hayes (Harwich, Mass.) in Intro Flat.
There will be a food truck on site as well as a ticket raffle with proceeds benefiting 30 Second Hug Human Animal Interaction Foundation, Inc. – a 501c3 Equine Rescue.
