CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Two of the College of Charleston's top sailors will be on the prowl for hardware this weekend at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Men's Singlehanded National Championships in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Saturday and Sunday.
Senior Steven Leuck and junior Benn Smith will look to bring home the eighth ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championship in program history this weekend at the Santa Barbara Yacht Club. Previous Cougars to lift the Glen S. Foster Trophy include Stefano Peschiera (twice), Juan Maegli (twice), Willis Lovell, Morgan Larson and Christopher Larson.
Leuck claimed a three-point victory at the SAISA Men's Singlehanded Championship in mid-September after beating out Miami's Marshall McCann by three points. The San Diego, Calif. native won three of the first four races and is considered one of the top contenders to take home the title this season. Smith placed third with 28 points – four behind McCann – to secure the third and final trip to nationals.
