
Tess Masselink Stars in 3000 at Camel City Classic

Winston-Salem, N.C. – College of Charleston sophomore Tess Masselink turned in one of the top distance performances in Cougar track and field history to highlight the first day of the Camel City Classic at the JDL Fast Track.
Masselink crossed the finish line in 10:04.56 in the 3000 meters to climb all the way from ninth to second in the Charleston indoor record book. She shaved more than 16 seconds off her time from the Gamecock Inaugural two weeks ago and finished ninth in a field of 60 athletes on Friday.
Only Dena O'Brien's time of 9:38.11 in 2012 tops Masselink's performance in school history.
Lily Nowakowski was the second Cougar to establish a PR with a time of 27.11 in the 200 meters. Maya Pringle had a time of 8.12 in the 60 meters, just .01 off her personal best, and had the second-fastest time in her career in the 200 with a mark of 27.38.
Breanna Tatum continued her strong showing this season in the long jump, finishing 14th out of 41 athletes with a top leap of 5.09 meters (16 feet, 8 ½ inches).
The Camel City Classic concludes on Saturday with competition in the 400 meters, the 4x400 and distance medley relays, shot put and triple jump.
