
Several Cougars Climb School Record Book at USC Open

Columbia, S.C. – College of Charleston freshman Chloe Christian took over sole possession of the top spot in school history in the pole vault, and three other Cougars moved into the top four in their events to highlight the track and field team's performance at the USC Open.
Christian cleared the bar at 3.60m (11 feet, 9 ¾ inches) to break a tie with Chelsea Taylor atop the record book. Tess Masselink now has the second-fastest time in school history in the mile after crossing the finish line in 4:56.02, with the time placing her second of 29 athletes on Saturday. Masselink also ranks second all-time in the 3000.
Stephanie Laudien starred in the triple jump with a leap of 11.62m (38-1 ½) to climb from fifth to third in school history, and Jenny Martin moved up one spot to fourth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.12 and take sixth place out of 27 runners.
Carlee Neel matched her personal best in the high jump with a top mark of 1.52m (4-11 ¾), a jump that ranks 10th in school history, and Aubree Boyle moved into ninth place in the record book with a time of 26.77 in the 200.
Simone Harris had another solid outing, finishing 11th of 37 athletes in the weight throw (15.51m, 50-10) and sixth of 28 in the shot put with a top toss of 12.69m (41-7 ¾). Brooklynn Barton improved her fifth-place standing in the record book with a throw of 12.12m (39-9 ¼) in the shot and moved into 10th in the weight throw (13.16m, 43-2).
Also establishing PRs were Adia Bennon (1:03.41) and Brooke Dudley (1:03.86) in the 400, Kayla Ennis (43.72) in the 300 and Hannah Vander Wall (9.98) in the 60 hurdles. Tori Churchill (10:46.79) and Kristen Cherry (10:47.52) were 13th and 14th, respectively, in the 3000.
The 4x400 relay team of Ennis, Bennion, Laudien and Gianna Cucinotta turned in a season-best time of 4:08.69.
The meet ends the Cougars' indoor season. The team is back in action on March 16 when they begin their outdoor campaign at the CSU Spring Break Invitational.
