Cougar Athletes Turn in Top Performances to Open Outdoor Season

Complete CSU Spring Break Invitational Results
Charleston, S.C. – College of Charleston freshman thrower Brooklynn Barton moved into the top 10 in school history in three events to highlight the women's track & field team's performance at the CSU Spring Break Invitational on Saturday.
Barton began the day with a throw of 37.32 (122 feet, 5 inches) in the javelin to take over the No. 4 spot in the Cougar record book and place fourth in the meet. She also finished fourth and stands fifth in school annals in the discus after a 39.89 (130-10) effort and was sixth on Saturday and is sixth all-time in the shot put at 11.80 (38-8 3/4).
Three other throwers established personal bests in the hammer including Lydia Bussey, whose 44.17 (144-11) showing improved her sixth-place standing in the record book. Madeline Weber (40.17, 131-9) and Bryanna Sims (34.86, 114-4) also had PRs in the event, with Weber moving into 10th place in school history in the event.
Nicole Lane (37.78, 123-11) and Jenny Martin (36.20, 118-9) were second and fifth, respectively, in the javelin. Simone Harris was second in the discus (44.43, 145-9) and shot put (12.79, 41-11 1/2).
Freshman pole vaulter Chloe Christian cleared the bar at 2.90 (9-6 ¼) to tie for fifth in school history, and Carlee Neel tied her PR in the high jump at 1.55 (5-1).
Cougar runners took the top three spots in the 3000, with Tess Masselink breaking her PR by 44 seconds with a time of 10:17.55. Cate Ambrose was second in a PR-time of 10:28.39, and Kristen Cherry took third in 10:32.60.
Leona Burton Rojas (5.30, 17-4 ¾) and Aubree Boyle (5.10, 16-8 ¾) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the long jump.
Hannah Vander Wall set a PR in the 200 (26.92). Burton Rojas (12.67) and Boyle (12.88) qualified for the finals in the 100 as did Martin in the 100 hurdles (14.92).
