CHARLESTON, S.C. – After matching one of the hottest teams in the country through two quarters, the College of Charleston women's basketball team eventually fell 65-42 to Drexel on Sunday afternoon at TD Arena in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup.
The Dragons (20-5, 12-2 CAA), holding the nation's best road win streak at 14 games, matched the Cougars (7-19, 3-12 CAA) through the first half with both teams efficient from the floor.
Freshman duo Latrice Perkins and Arynn Eady made key baskets through the opening period as Charleston held a 14-12 lead after one, shooting 54% from the floor.
The Dragons began to find their offensive stride in the second, making key baskets through the closing minutes of the half to hold a 28-22 lead at the break – Perkins leading all Cougars with six points and four rebounds, Eady adding five points and six boards.
The third quarter proved tough offensively for the Cougars. A 7-0 Drexel run pushed their lead to 15, Baileigh Larson adding five points from the bench after finishing a layup and extra point from the free-throw line.
Charleston struggled to find a basket from beyond the three-point line until the fourth, Dee Heath adding two from deep in-front of the Charleston bench but the Dragons hit the Cougars on the fast break to the double-digit lead intact.
Drexel finished with three student-athletes in double-figures, Bailey Greenberg scoring 21, to take the 65-42 win and move Charleston to 7-19 on the season, 3-12 in CAA play.
